Moodboards:

Introduction:

We were tasked with the job of creating four moodboards for our chosen genre (Alternative Rock). These moodboards each had a separate sub-heading and their names are as follows; Target Audience, The Development of the Genre Over Time, Key Artists Within the Genre and Conventional/Stereotypical Representations Within the Genre. After producing the moodboards, we then created an analysis of them in a podcast format via 'Archive.org' to ensure the use of a wide range of technology.

What Have We Learnt And How Will This Influence Our Ideas?

From completing this task, we have increased our knowledge of both conventions and stereotypes within the alternative rock genre. Some of these are projected implicitly/explicitly throughout the moodboards that we created. An example of this would be that from viewing our first mood board, Target Audience, the age demographic is fairly young (16-25) and this is reflected in the images. Artists nowadays wear more casual, dark clothing instead of over the top outfits worn by famous artists of the past. The third moodboard, Key Artists Within the Genre, includes mainly pictures of bands due to all members holding importance, not just the lead singer. For example, a guitarist is also a highly important component along with other instrument players. Overall, the information we have obtained from studying these moodboards will influence our initial planning as we can follow the conventions/stereotypes presented by them. Our products must also appeal to the ideologies of the target audience and so these moodboards will be a good reference point when we come to constructing our ideas, helping us make the most proffesional products we can.

Initial Audience Research & Analysis:

Introduction:

For this task, we needed to find out who the target audience would be in order to find out their preferences when it came to making our final product. Firstly, we created a survey on 'Survey Monkey' to find out who the target audience were (for example - how old they are, location etc.) and gathered a number results which influenced who we would ask for further detailed audience feedback. Secondly, we conducted filmed interviews after we found out who the target audience were, asking them a number of questions about their preferences in regards to our three products (music video, digipak and website). This was important because if the product doesn't appeal to our target audience, then it would simply not be successful. Finally, we needed to analyse all the results about who the target audience were and also what their preferences of the three products were. We did this using by creating an 'InfoGram' chart because it is a visually interesting technology.

- The following two screenshots show images of us posting our survey link via our individual 'Twitter' pages' to find out who the target audience were:

Production Roles:

Introduction:

This task required us to research production roles for a music video, digipak and website page. We have researched a number of roles from pre-production, production and post-production, explaining some of the important roles through a 'PowToon' slide show (exported via 'YouTube') to ensure the use of a different technology. Creating the production roles slide show holds the purpose of helping us understand what jobs are imperative when making a music video, digipak and website throughout all stages of production. We can then apply some of the roles to our own project, making sure we pick the right candidates (ideally experienced media students).

What Have We Learnt And How Will This Influence Our Ideas?

From creating this video we have learnt a multitude of roles that are required in the production of a music video, digipak and website page. Some examples include the photography team, who are required to plan a photo shoot of the artist and eventually shoot it during production. Overall, this will influence our ideas as we ourselves will need to take on some of these roles. There are certain roles that we have to make our own, such as the camera man and producer, as we will need to film and edit the footage to create the music video. A role such as design executive, however, will be given to our teacher Steven as he will approve our initial ideas. A number of minor tasks will be given to our fellow Media Studies friends such as Jack and Mahir, to ensure our production runs as quickly and smoothly as possible.
