Idrees Ifzal Individual Page

Introduction:

For this research task, I had to analyse a music video, website page and a digipak from a artist or band from my chosen genre. The band I chose were 'The 1975' as they were a conventional alternative rock band. I had to analyse a music video, website and digipak from this band and used various technologies to do so. For the essay I used Microsoft word, as I thought this was the most effective way to present my essay. I then analysed their website using 'Windows Expression' which allowed me to screen record as well as use a microphone to show their website. Lastly, I used Prezi which allowed me to analyse each aspect of the digipak in an interesting way.

Digipak:

What have I learnt and how will this influence my ideas?

This task has given me a much better understanding of the alternative rock genre. I now know what stereotypical conventions are used a alternative rock music video, website and digipak. I will implement these convention within my own 3 products to create a successful video, website and digipak. For example, using both narrative and performance in a music video is extremely common and popular among alternative rock as it has a huge appeal from their fans.

For the digipak analysis, the colour scheme remained consistent, only using black and white for the interior and exterior. This would appeal to the fans of alternative rock as black and white are conventional colours for this genre and are also commonly used in their music video's and webpages. For my digipak I aim to create something similar, using a consistent colour scheme throughout however I may also include a image of the artist to make it more visually interesting.

For the webpage, I have learnt that image based webpages have a bigger appeal to the alternative rock audience rather than text based webpages. This is because image based webpages tend to more visually interesting towards the alternative rock's primary audience (16-25) in comparison to an older audience.

In conclusion, I have gained a greater understanding of the genre and have learnt key conventions and stereotypes that are needed to be followed to create a successful alternative rock product.

Applying for production roles

Before actually creating our 3 products we needed to decide who is going to do what. To get the best results, we both applied for different roles which we thought best suited us. To apply for the roles I decided to create a Infogram as it a simple but effective piece of technology.

Lyric Analysis

For this task I had to analyse the song lyrics from our chosen song. This has allowed me to get a good understanding of the meaning of the song and will allow me to create a narrative that is coherent with the song lyrics.
